BLAINE AIR PERMEABILITY APPARATUS

Beam mould is used for concrete hardened testing. The material is cast iron and steel. The top brim is special design and avoids defacing the machined surface. Blaine Air Permeability Apparatus is used for determining the fineness of Portland Cement measures the specific surface area of fine materials in square centimetres per gram of test sample. By using this apparatus, a quantity of air is drawn through a bed of definite porosity. The rate of airflow is determined by the pore volume in the bed, a function of the size of particles.

PRINCIPLE:

The VTECH of cement is measured as specific surface. Specific surface is expressed as the total surface area in square meters of all the cement particles in one kilogram of cement. The higher the specific surface is, the finer cement will be.

TECHNICAL


Air Permeability Apparatus of cement affects hydration rate hence the rate of strength gain. The smaller the particle size, the greater the surface area-to-volume ratio, and thus, the more area available for water-cement interaction per unit volume. Therefore finer cement reacts faster with water and the rate of development of strength and corresponding heat of hydration is high. Air Permeability Apparatus is used to check the proper grinding of cement and measures the surface area of the cement particles per unit mass.
